How to Find a Library Book
Fiction:
- Books are shelved in alphabetical order (first 3 letters of the author's last name).
- If there are two authors with the same last name, then they are shelved alphabetically by their first names.
- If one author has written several books, then you look in alphabetical order to the letters in the title.
- Ignore the words A, An, and The when shelving titles alphabetically.

Nonfiction:
- Books are shelved in numerical order. Those numbers to the right of the decimal are in thousandths, and count too.
- Those with equal Dewey numbers must then be shelved in alphabetical order according to the author (first three letters of the authors last name from the spine label).
