About Our Program

The purpose of the 7th and 8th Grade Stroudsburg Cheerleader is to promote and uphold school spirit, to develop a sense of good sportsmanship among the students, to support athletic programs, develop positive relationships in the community and between the schools during athletic events, to lead the crowd in cheering for the teams, and to provide entertainment to crowds during games.

Evaluations

Evaluations are done by the SHS coaches and are final. They are based on athletic ability, spirit, school academics, and teacher evaluations.

Returning members must re-try out for the squad each and every year.

Persons who have quit or have been removed from the squad must have special permission from the coaches to tryout again and a written statement as to why they believe they should have the privilege to join again.

Tryout sessions will be closed to outside parties.

Squad Makeup and Time Commitment

The squad will consist of amount of cheerleaders chosen by the coaches.

All members are expected to participate for one year, starting after tryouts and ending at the end of the last game or competition or scheduled school event.

Practices will range in a variety of dates and times in the Summer, Fall, and Winter. These practice dates will range due to commitments of the cheerleaders. Expect to practice more during preparation each season, competitions, pep rallies, homecoming events, and all other activities. These practices can range from 0-5 days a week for 2-4 hours per day. Saturday practices may occur.

JH cheers for: Home JH and Freshmen Boys Football Games, Home JH 7th & 8th Boys Soccer Games, Home JH 7 & 8th Basketball Games, Home JH and Freshmen Wrestling Matches, Homecoming week, Pep Rallies, possible competitions, and any other school related event or activity

Cheerleading Camp will be at Camp Bryn Mawr in Honesdale on August 19th - 22nd. This camp is mandatory for Varsity and JV (JH will be up to coaches discretion).

Eligibility

Cheerleaders must maintain a C average in all subject areas. Report cards are to be handed into the coach at the end of each grading period. Failure to do so will result in suspension till the document is turned in. Cheerleaders maintaining below a C average must show proof of the grade rising in two weeks time and turn in monthly reports until grade is stabilized and will be suspended during that time.

Failing a subject is grounds for automatic dismissal from the squad.

In School or Out of School suspension or detention and ACE are grounds for automatic dismissal. Warnings and a suspension may be allowed after first offense. Second offense is not tolerated and is without question an automatic dismissal.

Teamwork and Attitude

Each squad member will treat coaches, captains, game officials, other athletics and school staff, and opposing school, with respect at all times.

Members are expected to behave appropriately during games and appearances, refraining from booing, heckling, or other negative behavior toward officials or other teams.

Members will be given a verbal warning at the time of their first offense and may be dismissed from the squad for any subsequent offenses. Coaches’ discretion will be final regarding inappropriate behavior or attitude.
